Culturally Meaningful Colour Palette
Red and gold were then chosen as the traditional celebratory colours for both cultures. However, I opted to adapt these bright tones and created a more muted colour palette as attuned to the couple’s wish to simultaneously execute a more modern wedding. Hence, bright red was converted to a darker maroon, paired with a black background and set in gold foiling to unify the different cultural elements while maintaining a simple elegance within the design.
Combining Traditional Elements
Florals and a cursive font were chosen as an ode to the style of design and script used in olden Chinese and Arab times, paired with a serif font to reinforce the traditional design elements.
Materialising the Design
I used a professional printing and foiling company to manufacture these invitations professionally, ensuring quality which matched the intentions of my design.
Personal Reflection
Working closely with private clients taught me to ensure that I was designing for the user and everything which was emotionally significant to them, creating impactful design which best reflected their wishes and went beyond their needs.
Establishing Direction
These wedding invitations were meant to highlight the couple’s native Chinese and Arab backgrounds yet integrate the Western culture in which they both grew up in. To tie these threads together, I worked with the client to use their respective cultural languages to convey the primary wedding greeting.
